THE CHAIRMAN’S SPRING MESSAGE 2022
Dear Member
As the first signs of spring are appearing all around, we can look forward to the opening of the green and the start of the outdoor season. Hopefully, we will be able to enjoy a full schedule of Fixtures and Club Competitions as life starts to return to normal after the upheaval of the last two years.
The Committee have some exciting plans for modernising our facilities and 2022 will see the commencement of work towards obtaining grants in order to fund this. This project will be of great benefit to the future of the club and our members. We will be needing people to form a sub-committee for this work, so if you have experience of this type of project please come forward and speak to the management committee.
The traditional “First Woods” will be delivered by our President and Vice President on Friday the 22nd April at 6.00 p.m. Please come along and support this event and then take part in the Quiz in the Clubhouse afterwards. The bar will be open, and this will be a good way to catch up with old friends as well as getting to know some of our newer members.
As always, the club is looking for new members in order to survive. Please could each of you try to find one other person to bring down to the club for an introduction to our sport, and hopefully we will see our club bloom.
The captains will need your support in order to fulfil all of our fixtures. This is especially true now that we have two Men’s teams in the South Cotswold League.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 22nd April and wish you all an enjoyable season.
Paul Stephens
Chairman
MIXED CAPTAINS
The 4 Mixed Match Captains welcome everyone to take part in this season’s friendly matches. We shall be sharing the duties throughout the season. At this time, we fully expecting that we shall be able to complete all the friendly matches listed in the handbook. Please help your Captains by adding your name to the team sheets when they go up on the club noticeboard. We consider these friendly matches an important part of our club’s activities and you get to try your bowling on other greens and you get mix with bowlers from other Clubs. The Mixed Captains are very much looking forward to an enjoyable and successful season.
MEN’S CAPTAIN.
On the back of last year's very successful season in Division 2 of the South Cotswold League, where we secured third position, I am looking forward and confident of another good season.
We are entering a B team in Division 4 therefore giving an opportunity to a lot more players to participate in this competition which runs on Tuesday evenings from 10 May to 9 August.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone on the Green and hoping for good weather and companionship.
Good luck.
LADIES CAPTAIN.
Hi Ladies -
We do hope you are all looking forward to playing bowls this season. This year we have a full programme of fixtures to get ourselves into with no restrictions.
As mentioned at our post season meeting last year we would like to organise some coaching sessions on the basics including bowls etiquette. This will be aimed specifically at the new ladies but of course everyone would be welcome. We can discuss this further at our pre-season meeting on Wednesday 20th April at 7pm. We do hope you can all attend.
As most of you will be aware we have entered both Ladies leagues this year: Corinium and Stroud Valley Triples. We should therefore prepare ourselves accordingly to give both our best shot this year.
We also have a number of Ladies Friendly matches which we hope you all will be keen to play in. These can be friendly light hearted affairs which are especially good practise for the newer bowlers.
Good luck to all Ladies who have entered County and National Competitions. We will ensure details of all games are posted so that you can arrange to attend and support NMBC.
We wish you all an enjoyable and successful season.
TRIPLES CAPTAIN
I hope everyone is looking forward to the 2022 outdoor bowling season. On average we have least twenty triples games home and away. Games are very friendly and it is a chance for newer players to learn more about the game in the company of friends and more experienced players who will help you to improve your own play as well as a social occasion.
Usually we have tea and biscuits after 9 ends and finish after 18 ends. Playing away will give everyone the chance to play on a different green, most are a little faster than our home green.
There will be a list off all players in the clubhouse with the dare, time, dress code and opponents. Where everyone can tick their name it they wish to play.
I wish everyone an enjoyable playing season and look forward to seeing you on the green.
